Aegina, 525-500 BC. AR Stater (12.37g). Rare!!! Cf. especially CNG Triton V (1-15/16-02), lot 1373, then listed as the "Finest Known." Our piece considerably better, with virtually a complete head. "Proto-Tortoise." Turtle with globular segmented shell, and pointed hindquarters, seen from above. Reverse: "Early Union Jack" -- eight-part divided quadripartite incuse. SNG Delepierre 1838; Milbank pl. I, 6. Bold strike, on excellent metal. Handsome old toning. Extremely Fine.
