Thrace, Islands off. Thasos, c. 463-449 BC. AR Stater (9.29 g). Transitional Style. Ithyphallic satyr carrying off protesting nymph. Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square. Le Rider, Thasiennes 2; SNG Copenhagen 1010-1012; Kraay, ACGC, 520. Appealingly rendered figures, perfectly centered on fairly ample flan -- the devices virtually complete. Nicely toned. Very Fine.
