Sicily. Syracuse. Agathokles, 317-289 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.31 g), struck c. 310-305 BC. Head of Arethusa left, hair wreathed in grain, surrounded by four dolphins; NI below neck. Reverse: Charioteer in fast quadriga left, triskeles above; ethnic and AI monogram in exergue. Ierardi, "Tetradrachms of Agathocles of Syracuse," in ANSAJN 7-8, 28 (same obv. die = O4); SNG Ashmolean 2067; Dewing 943. Clean, sharp strike, with a little residual luster, on usual slightly tight flan. Faintly toned. Very attractive overall. Extremely Fine.
