1862 Indian Head Cent. PCGS graded MS-64. Nicely toned. Fully original choiceness with warm golden to tan color from the interaction of the atmosphere on the copper and nickel components of this unusually fat (72-grain) cent of the early period. Adequately struck, though perhaps not 100% sharp. It was the hard nickel alloy that was one reason for the mint abandoning the composition in 1864 in favor of French bronze, which has more of the softer copper in the alloy (PCGS # 2064) .
Estimated Value $180 - 200.
The Victor Kramer Collection.

Realized $242
