Lot 244

1938-D Liberty Walking Half Dollar. MS-60. The lowest mintage issue in the 1930s, only 491,600 pieces were minted. There is an amazing photograph in existence (published in a few numismatic periodicals years ago) that shows a flat-bed cart with metal wheels at the Denver Mint in 1938, piled high with bags of half dollars, each date-stamped "1938". From what we know of the limited mintage this year, this photo may be of the entire year's mintage, all captured in one goosebump enducing black-and-white photograph!
Estimated Value $250 - 300.

Realized $558
