1916 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. ANACS graded MS-61. Intensely lustrous with delicate golden toning. A trifle soft at the head ad upper shield. In a new anacs holder. A glistening first year of issue rarity with satin luster that nicely merges with the original light toning on choice surfaces. Subtle hints of brown and champagne with natural shade bring out the expansiveness of the strike while it enhances the unexpectedly beautiful eye appeal of this coin. Only 52,000 minted.
The design of this new quarter dollar series was well accepted by an appreciative public bored with the stereotyped Barber coins. This sometimes controversial issue, even if artistically superior to most of the American coinage designs that preceded it caused a bit of a stir in some circles because Liberty's left breast was left exposed, in the Type One design. Modifications were done in haste and the breast was tastefully covered by stylish chain mail armor on the Type Two version that appeared partway through 1917 (PCGS # 5704) .
