19th Century California Art. Two oil paintings on paper. One painting is by Benjamin Witner, titled "Near Cliff House," (1883), 7¼x12".Unsigned. Fine condition. Showing a rocky coast near San Francisco. Witmer was a member of a pioneer Los Angeles family and an amateur artist. The second painting (by Juan Wandesforde), shows a glade in a forest, 11 1/8" x 15 1/8". A penciled date, Dec. 8th, 1877 is on the top back. Fine except for a break at lower right tip and a few dislodged flecks of paint in the background. Both items are matted to 16"x20".
