Maurassie. Selim III. Lithograph of the third Turkish Sultan who reigned from 1761-1808, signed in the stone plate by the artist, "Maurassie 1827," 16¼x13¼", matted to 23x16½". Engraved by C. Motte. Oval embossed blank stamp at lower edge says "Contemporains Etrangers, Q.M." Selim was a Sunnite who warred against the Shiites and successfully reorganized his armies on Western European models.
