Travels Through North and South Carolina, Georgia, East and West Florida, 1791. Printed by James & Johnson and embellished with copper plates, this rare and highly collectible tome by William Bartram, an Early American botanist, tells of his travels through "…Cherokee Country, the extensive Territories of the Muscogulges, or Creek Confederacy and the country of the Chactows," with observations on the manners of the Indians, and an account of the soil and natural production of these regions. 8x5", 522pp. Frontispiece is a portrait of "Mico Chlucco the Long Warior or King of the Siminoles." A 7½x11" fold-out map shows the coast of East Florida, from the St. John River to near Cape Canaveral. With four botanical plates (two others have been removed). Original period boards and spine; only a new gold-gilt stamped title plate has been attached.
