(Besallion, Peter) 1699 Money Bond Agreement. A Pennsylvania money bond agreement in the amount of £100, indebting John Hartt and Nicholas Godin to Indian trader Peter Besallion (herein referred to as "Merchant"), 12x7½", 6 Mar. 1699. Signed with the marks of Hartt and Godin, both with wax seals showing rampant lions, and witnessed by Absolom Cuff and John Crenze. Written on laid paper; overall toning and scattered foxing. Besallion was a well-known French Canadian Indian trader and translator who lived in Pennsylvania and who helped maintain the cordial relations with the Indians for which Pennsylvania was noted. A rare, early Pennsylvania document.
