Napoleon I (1769-1821) Emperor of the French. Partly-printed Document Signed "N" as Emperor, 19¼x14", St. Cloud, 10 April 1813. Very good; 2½" split at vertical fold and 1½" split at right edge of center fold. Headed by an attractive imperial arms vignette, with an embossed imperial seal below Napoleon's large, bold "N," and with a variety of watermarks, such as a trident and an anchor. Coutersigned by the ministers of four departments. An unaccomplished form authorizing an American vessel to bring into French ports items such as cotton, fish oil, coffee and sugar from the French colonies, America and Asia, cacao, spices, indigo, etc. Printed horizontally at right are instructions for the French consul at Charlestown, New York, Boston, or Baltimore to fill in the name of the ship and to carefully note its cargo.
