Maximilian I (1832-67) Austrian duke who became Emperor of Mexico (1864-67) with the backing of Napoleon III of France and a group of Mexican conservatives; he was captured and executed by Mexican republicans. Document Signed on the last page, 6 pp, 13x8¾", n.p., n.d. Signed on page 6. Fine; light toning and a few edge chips; held together with a green ribbon. The document details the salaries and expenses of the "Diplomatic Embassies of the Empire" in numerous foreign lands, mostly in Europe, but also in Guatemala, Brazil, the Ottoman Empire, and Persia, from 1 Aug. 1864 to 31 July 1865.
