Lot 719

1889 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. A frosty white gem. Pop 1; none higher. Possibly the finest known or certainly tied for top honors. Only 12,000 pieces were struck of this low total mintage rarity from the 1880s. While Mint State coins are not rare in the absolute sense, in MS-68 this is an important condition rarity that should be draw a large horde of collectors. The surfaces are light frosty white in the centers with hint of russet gold toning around the margins. Sharply struck, and as one would expect, each side is nearly perfectly preserved. Population: 2 in 68, 0 finer. (The other MS68 specimen appeared in a Heritage auction of Nov 2005 where it sold for $10,350. It has deeper toning than this piece, plus not-all-that-attractive white spots on the obverse.) (PCGS # 5522) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 18,000.

Realized $16,675
