Lot 648

1821 Capped Bust Dime. Small date. NGC graded MS-64. Needle sharp. A beautiful untoned example which has nice frosty white luster from center to periphery. With a mintage for the year of 1,186,512, some Large Date and Small Date varieites can be found quite easily. Regarding the relative populations of two date sizes, PCGS and NGC on average have graded about one-tenth the number of Small Dates as they have Large Dates. Therefore, this variety is going to be more difficult to acquire. The Small Date appears to hug the rim at 6:00. The three known Small Date die marriages are fairly common (JR-10 being scarcest). Pop 24; 11 finer.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Realized $5,463
