Lot 3246

1922, $20 Gold Certificate. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. . Fr-1187. . KL-564. A strikingly beautiful bright gold certificate whose fresh paper, golden orange color, and sharp corners means that it will decorate a high-quality set of United States paper money. Twenty dollars was a lot of money in those days; the typical Ford motor company assembly line worker received pay of $5 per day for his labors, so remember that it took four full days of hard work to earn this $20 gold note. Of course, back then there were virtually no income taxes, sales taxes, parking meter taxes, telephone access fees, or seat belt laws. You could also smoke a Cuban cigar in a speakeasy restaurant and no one would hustle you out the door into a paddywagon. So just maybe $20 would take you pretty far back in '22. Be that as it may, few gems remain of this colorful $20 gold note.
Estimated Value $2,750 - 3,000.

Realized $3,680
