Lot 1548

1917-S Liberty Walking Half Dollar. Mint mark on obverse. PCGS graded MS-64. A nice frosty white coin. A splendid MS64 with very choice surfaces and a powerful strike. Pop 100; 34 in 65; 2 in 66; 1 in 67. (PCGS # 6572) .

The same Treasury Department competition that won Adolph Alexander Weinman a prize and the commission to design the new dime for 1916, also won him the same privilege for the half dollar, March 3, 1916. Weinman's design, replacing Barber's stolid Germanic conception, embodies a Liberty entwined in the American flag.
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,500.

Realized $8,510
