Lot 1547

1917-D. Mint mark on reverse. PCGS graded MS-64 PQ. Nicely toned. Well struck. One would be hard pressed to locate a more attractive 1917-D half dollar, even if one were to devote months to the activity. The satin frosted, icy white surfaces under the toning seem like an avalanche of unblemished mint luster. Scarce (PCGS # 6571) .

Partway through the calendar year 1917, the mintmarks D and S were transferred to the reverse from the obverse, thereby creating two varieties of each that year.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.
