Lot 1526

1906 Barber Half Dollar. NGC graded Proof 66. Brilliant white and worthy of a "Cameo" designation. The wintry blast of white luster is utterly pleasing on this glowing Proof, a coin of uncommon beauty in one of the more popularly collected denominations.

The obverse of the Barber half dollar depicts Liberty as a mirror image of the Morgan silver dollar, with a laurel wreath on her head, and her hair tucked up under her cap instead of cascading onto her shoulders as on the silver dollar. Charles Barber adapted the reverse design from the Great Seal of the United States, very similar to what Robert Scot had done 91 years earlier on silver and gold coinage although the workmanship is much more technically proficient. Pop 29; 18 better. (PCGS # 6553) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.

Realized $4,025
