Circus "Freaks". Collection of 8 items, c. 1870s: Tom Thumb 2¼ x 3½ in Card Signed "Charles S. Stratten known as General Tom Thumb" in purple ink by P.T. Barnum's star attraction; a second card is signed by his wife (Lavinia Warren), "Mrs. Charles S. Stratton / Cleveland / May 8th, 1878," also in purple ink. Cartes de visite of the original Siamese twins Eng and Chang Bunker and their wives, Sarah and Adelaide Yates, with whom they had 22 children. The two men were joined by a small band of flesh at the chest. Each man signed the back of both photos. Ann E. Leak, a carte de visite of the armless and toeless woman who toured with Cooper, Bailey & Co.; also present are two 4½ x 3 in. souvenir cards sold by Leak at her shows, with Leak's name on the back (we don't know if she signed). Chang Woo Gow, cabinet photo of the 8 ft. 2 in. Chinese giant and his bride, Fair Lily; there is some Chinese writing on the back. These eight items are displayed in a 12¼ x 16¼ in. Ryker case.
