Pope Pius XII (1876-1958) Photograph Signed "Pius pp. XII" on the mount, under a request for his apostolic benediction. The chest-up, right-profile image in clerical robes, by Baumgartner, Rome, is 6½"x4½", affixed to a 15"x10" mount. The embossed papal seal is at lower left. Born Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli, he was one of a few popes in recent history to excercise his Papal Infallibility by issuing a dogmatic definition. His leadership of the Catholic Church during the period of World War II is still a topic of discussion.
