Roman Empire. Caligula, 37-41 AD. Gold Aureus (7.7g), Rome, struck 40 AD. Laureate head right of Gaius (nicknamed "Caligula"). Reverse: Bare head right of Germanicus, father of Gaius. RIC 25 [as R3]; BMC 26. A few scuffs at edge and an old one on the cheek of Germanicus. The portraiture is excellent for this very rare and desirable issue. Choice Very Fine.
