Lot 3806
Lucania. Metapontum. c. 500-300 BC. Lot of Silver Fractions. Five pieces, mostly the early incuse types. Barley ear / incuse ear: 1/3 Nomos (Noe 83); Obol (Noe 60-63); Triobol with bucranium reverse (Noe 292). Diobol: Barley ear / Man-faced bull head right (SNG ANS 290). Diobol: Apollo Carneius left / barley ear (SNG ANS 523). Plus Herakleia, AR Diobol: Helmeted athena head r. / Herakles & lion. And lastly, like the earlier Metapontum types, from Tragilos, Macedon, Hemiobol, 450 BC.: Barley ear / Ethnic in incuse square (cf. SGC 1470). Inspection suggested, as there is much variety in surfaces, patinas, and details. But worthwhile, interesting material here. Lot of 7 coins. Coins average Fine, plus or minus.
