Lot 2896

Great Britain. Unite, ND. S.2694. Charles I, 1625-1649. Sixth bust. Mint mark, Triangle within circle, both sides. King with pointed beard (Briot-style bust) and large lace collar. Reverse: Crown over oval shield dividing crowned 'CR'. Slightly double struck on the (XX) mark of value and the Charles's crown, but this is an exceptionally high grade example of what is usually a crudely struck coin, produced around 1642, just as the English Civil War was starting. The portrait is very well struck and detailed, and there is a great deal of original mint luster remaining. This coin is as fine an example of this variety as we have seen in many years. NGC graded AU-55.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.
