Lot 2508

1878-S $10 Liberty. NGC graded AU-55. Pop 21; 19 finer. Once the Resumption Act of 1875 went into full effect and small change began to return to circulation in December 1877, the government was able to reestablish gold parity with paper money substitutes beginning in 1879. The year 1878 was one of transition from the very low mintage issues of 1862 to 1877 to the very high mintage issues struck thereafter to the turn of the 20th century and beyond. Not especially rare, this is an important date in the history of the soon-to-be-official Gold Standard of the country (PCGS # 8682) .
Estimated Value $1,900 - 2,200.

Realized $2,415
