Lot 2500

1871-CC $10 Liberty. NGC graded AU-53. Medium orange toning. 1871-CC checks in as a significant rarity among the $10 issues produced at the Carson City Mint. Relatively few were minted (in this instance 8,085), and all seem to have ended up in circulation. There was no interest on the part of numismatists at the time.

The present piece is exciting and attractive, ranking as it does high in the NGC Census, with few possessing such beauty and original color. The striking is very acceptable as well, much luster is present, the rarity is unquestioned, and all elements are in place for this to create a stir when it crosses the block. NGC reports 5 at this level with 6 in AU-55, 6 in AU-58 and 1 in MS-62 (PCGS # 8661) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 17,000.
