1862, $1 United States Note. Fr-16. Trimmed into the design at top, obliterating the margin design as pictured. PCGS graded Apparent Uncirculated 62.

First Issue. These notes are dated March 10, 1862 and were issued in all denominations from 5 to 1,000 Dollars. The obligation on the obverse of all these notes is, The United States promise to pay to the bearer Dollars. Payable at the Treasury of the United States at New York.' There are two separate obligations on the reverse side of these notes.

Friedberg-16 uses the Second Obligation which reads as follows, 'This note is a legal tender for all debts, public and private, except duties on imports and interest on the public debt, and is receivable in payment of all loans made to the United States."
