Lot 137

1937-D Buffalo Nickel. 3 legs. NGC graded MS-64 P.Q. Here is a well struck example of what is arguably the most popular 20th century mint error. This lovely specimen boasts of soft frosty mint luster with nary a distracting blemish that is laden with attractive violet toning. Always in demand, the 3-Legged Buffalo is usually seen only in EF-AU grades. Choice uncirculated specimens are quite rare and when encountered, represent a high point in any Buffalo Nickel set. NGC reports 155 at this level with 36 in MS-65, 13 in MS-66 and 1 in MS-67 star. We suspect a healthy number at this level represent re-submissions of the same coin.
Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,000.
