Lot 1170

1927-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. Breen-7411, "very rare." A key date to the Saint Gaudens series. This is a handsome strike for the date/mint combination. One can make out several pillars near the top of the capitol dome and many at the second and third levels and on the reverse the eagle's feathers are full and well defined. The attractive surfaces are honey amber gold in color and contact marks are quite consistent with the grade level, even perhaps somewhat nicer than might be expected. Bowers, in his study of $20 gold coins, rates it "Very rare…highly important" and comments further that "ownership of a fine 1927-S is a badge of accomplishment." Here's a rare opportunity to acquire that "badge" for yourself. Pop 21, with 4 in 64, 5 in 65, 2 in 66 and one in 67 (PCGS # 9188) .
Estimated Value $40,000 - 45,000.

Realized $52,900
