Sterling Silver "Gary Medal". A medal awarded for 30 years of continuous service with the United States Steel Corporation. It is 1¼ inches in diameter., attached to a black ribbon, no date. One side shows workmen with a train; at top is "30 Years' Service; at bottom is "Sterling" on one side, "W. & H. Co. on the other side, and the initials "C.L.L." at the lower edge. The other side has a bust of Judge Elbert H. Gary, the first Chairman of the Board of U.S. Steel; the company's name is across the top, and a facsimile of Gary's signature, with "Chairman" at the bottom. According to an enclosed letter from the corporation, these were often used as a fob for a pocket watch, or as a pocket piece, strap fob or pendant. From the Stuart Goldman estate.
