Woolley, Edgar M. "Monty" (1889-1963) College professor; actor, best known for his role in the "Man Who Came to Dinner." Rare Typed Letter Signed "Edgar M. Woolley" as First Lieutenant of Military Intelligence, on War Department / Office of the Chief of Staff letterhead, Paris, January 25, 1919, 1p, quarto. Written to his commanding officer, requesting permission to return to America, now that the war is over. "I desire to return to the United States in order to resume my former occupation, which has been abandoned since the beginning of the Mexican trouble in 1916…." His former occupation was teaching English and journalism; he came to acting later. A significant Monty Woolley letter.
