McDaniel, Hattie (1895-1952) Actress best known for her role as "Mammy" in Gone With the Wind. Watercolor Portrait Signed and Inscribed, "Lots of Luck and Success Always / Hattie McDaniel / 5/14/40," presumably to the artist Leonore Knight (who has signed the portrait), n.p., 9¼ x 4¾ in. Signed just three months after winning an Academy award for her role in Gone With the Wind. The watercolor has two images: at top as a glamorous movie star in white fur adorned with flowers, and at bottom, as she appeared in her role as "Mammy". Knight was a Los Angeles newspaper illustrator in the early 1920s. A wonderful display item.
