Battle of Lake Erie - September 10, 1813. An account of the Battle of Lake Erie in the Boston Gazette, September 30, 1813, 4 pp, 19¼ x 13¼ in. Page 1 prints Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's letters of Sept. 12 and 13 to Secretary of the Navy William Jones, giving an account of the battle and discussing the prisoners, the wounded, and the condition of the ships. Another column states the force of both sides, as well as the names of all of the Americans killed or wounded. Also printed is Perry's famous letter to General William Henry Harrison: "Dear General, We have met the enemy; AND THEY ARE OURS." A light stain at top left and center and partial edge split, else very good. Housed in a custom-made holder of black buckram with burgundy spine; the name of the paper, the date, and "Battle of Lake Erie" are in gilt lettering.
