Edward VIII (1894-1972) King of Great Britain; abdicated to marry an American divorcée. Document Signed "Edward Duke of Windsor," n.p. n.d., 1 p. quarto. Being a souvenir copy of the Instrument of Abdication that Edward VIII signed December 10, 1936, renouncing his claim to the throne. He was thereafter given the title "Duke of Windsor." Although he normally went by the name of David among his friends, he signs here with his name as king, followed by his new title. Boldly signed; toned marks at outer edges from a previous framing. This is the first such document we have seen. An excellent display item.
Estimated Value $600 - 900.
