(Lincoln, Abraham) Cabinet Photo of His Home In Springfield, Illinois. Cabinet-size, albumen print, 4 x 6¾ in., laid to larger board, c. 1889, with imprint of O.H. Oldroyd, state custodian, on verso. A note on the verso by the original owner says, "Visited this place in May 1889." Some toning and foxing. Notations on mount, above and below photo. This house, which was built in 1839, was only a story and a half when the Lincolns purchased it in May of 1844. Between 1844 and 1861, the years the Lincolns lived there, the home underwent several additions, the last being in 1856 when the second story was added. The elm tree in the front yard was planted by Lincoln.
