"The British Governments in North America" by J. Gibson, c.1764. "Laid down agreeable to the Proclamation of Octr. 7. 1763." A very interesting map on a number of counts. First, it has a very "modern" feel to it in terms of presentation and layout. The color, while hand done, is quite exact in its application. Also, there's the inclusion of the inner map, Bermuda "or the Summer Islands." Finally, one will find another interesting aspect at the southern tip of the states. (Not only is there an East & West Florida, but the region we now know as south Florida is made up of numerous islands!) The territory just west of the colonies is designated, "Lands Reserved for the Indians" and Louisiana spans from it present location all the way north and west. Museum matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 13.25". Fine.
