"Nova Hispania et Nova Galica" by Jansson, c.1639. An absolute gem of a map! Meticulously detailed in its documentation of Mexico. Radiant, hand-applied color permeates throughout the body of this work from the beast-like whale off the coast of Mexico, to the armadillos and cherub decorating the legend in lower right. And then there's the cartouche! A wealth of colors adorn this exquisite vignette. Museum matted and framed to an overall size of 26.5" x 21.5". Fine.
