"L'Amerique Suivant Les Dernieres Observations De L'Acad. Royale Des Sciences", early 1700's. Not only is California depicted and labeled as an island, but Australia is located directly beneath South America. An exquisitely beautiful yet simple map of the Americas. The body of the map is accented by hand-colored hues of cobalt, light pink, yellow and green. The cartouche and border are also delicately painted in varying shades of the same colors. Museum matted and framed to an overall size of 11.5 x 13". A tiny stain in the upper left, not affecting document. Fine.
