Lot 982

1873 Two Cents. Closed 3. PCGS graded Proof 63 Brown PQ. The 1873 two-cent piece is a proof-only issue and one with two varieties; the Open 3 and Closed 3. Of the two, the Closed 3 is the more available variety. While technically this coin could correctly be considered PR63 due to some light hairlines, the eye appeal of this iridescent beauty is near-gem in quality. The blue, green, yellow and magenta toning is blazing from more than an arms length away. We have not ever seen a two-cent piece with this much original blue toning on it before. PCGS has graded 17 in PR-63BN, 26 in PR-64BN, 6 in PR-65BN and 2 in PR-66BN (PCGS # 3651) .
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,400.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.

Realized $2,530
