Lot 2621

1910-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. The 1910-S is an issue that is readily available in all grades up to the gem level. Several large hoards of this date have led to the availability in lower mint state grades, but in gem condition, the 1910-S quickly becomes a different type of beast. Survival rates in gem condition are very small and a correctly graded gem is quite a feat to find. The present piece has strong detail, unmarked devices and pleasing lustrous fields. The lightest hint of iridescent toning exists on Liberty's legs. On the reverse, the only mark to note is a diagonal nick in the mid-portion of the eagle's left wing. PCGS has graded 48 in MS-65, 3 in MS-66, 7 in MS-67 and a single MS-68 as finest (PCGS # 9156) .
Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,500.

Realized $7,763
