Lot 2486

1867 $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-61. Loaded with luster and full mint bloom. A low mintage Type II Philadelphia issue with a mintage of only 251,015 that was struck one year after the beginning of the With Motto double eagles. Well struck with every star sharp and completely raised. Unquestionably mint state in preservation, this 1867 example is one of few that have managed to survive to the mint state level. Frosty surfaces with the original skin 100% intact. The typical abrasions and scattered contact marks of MS61-62 double eagles. Completely original deep orange gold coloration simply adds to the already outstanding eye appeal of this Type II double eagle rarity. Very choice for the assigned grade of MS61. PCGS has never graded an 1867 $20 above MS62 (PCGS # 8951) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

Realized $3,910
