Lot 2481

Frosty Uncirculated 1858 $20 Liberty. NGC graded MS-61. A fully struck and frosty mint state Type I double eagle. Rich gold coloration with a touch of reddish-orange toning at and near the date. Mesmerizing luster and satiny surfaces are held back from a higher grade by light hairlines on the obverse. Definetely not the normal "slider" coin. The 1858 Type I double eagle is quite rare in accurately graded mint state condition. Not nearly as common as the 1851, 1852 or 1853 in uncirculated condition, the 1858 is a little undervalued in choice MS61. Double eagle collectors and gold enthusiasts will appreciate the originality and flash of this example! NGC population of 11 in MS-61, 1 in MS-62 and 1 in MS-63 as finest.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.

Realized $8,338
