Lot 2312

1910 $5 Gold Indian. PCGS graded Proof 66. Light gold coloration and blemish-free surfaces adorn this Roman Gold finish. This finish allows gem specimens to display luster and the present specimen definitely has fine obverse luster. With 3x magnification, a few isolated and wispy hairlines are found near 1:00 on the obverse. The same slick luster exists on the reverse and is interrupted by only a single scratch under AME of AMERICA. This is a fantastic proof gold rarity, much more so than the mintage figure would suggest. With the highest mintage figure for proof Indian Head half eagles (250 coins), one could be misled about the rarity of this issue. For reasons unknown, perhaps melting or excessive use, the 1910 is one of the scarcest proofs of this series. Many years often pass between the offering of a true gem and we urge our clients to consider this when bidding. NGC population of 9 in PF-66 with only 9 finer.
Estimated Value $25,000 - 30,000.

Realized $32,200
