Lot 2282

1895-S $5 Gold Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58 PQ. A flashy example of this low population and conditionally rare issue. Only 112,000 half eagles were produced at San Francisco this year and the survival rate in mint state is quite low. The present coin is conservatively graded and is more realistically an uncirculated coin with light hairlines. PCGS has graded only 8 in AU-58 with a tiny figure of only 12 finer. While any rare gold dealer will tell you the 1895-S is rare in mint state, prices have not reflected this known fact and we consider this a strong buy. In old green holder. (PCGS # 8391) .
Estimated Value $900 - 1,000.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.

Realized $834
