1878 Trade Dollar. NGC graded Proof 65 PQ. A spectacular gem proof of this low mintage issue! Only 900 proofs were made in 1878 and a large number have been mishandled, cleaned and altered over the years. The present specimen offers the astute buyer a chance to acquire a completely original piece that has the perfect combination of cameo-contrast between the devices and fields accented by vivid iridescent peripheral toning. Electric blue, magenta and deep russet toning paint the borders of an otherwise white and frosty gem. The fields are fully reflective, every portion appearing like a mirror. A perfect type candidate for the most quality conscious individual! Last seen in the market as Lot #3747 of the Superior Sale of the 1872 Amazonian Gold Pattern Set in 1990 where it brought $9,900. NGC population of 41 in PF65, 13 in PF66 and 4 in PF67.
