1803 Draped Bust Half Dollar. Large 3. NGC graded EF-45. After the mintage of only 29,890 coins in 1802, the Philadelphia Mint used two obverse dies and three reverse dies to strike 188,234 coins in 1803. The two basic varieties for this year are the Large 3 and Small 3. While the surfaces of the present example were lightly cleaned some time ago, the detail is above average and some light iridescence has come back to the obverse at 8:00-12:00.
