Lot 1119

Twenty Cent Piece. 1878. NGC graded Proof 65. A deeply struck example of this final year of issue and a year in which only proofs were struck at a number of 600 pieces. Both the obverse and reverse show traces of the wire rim, the obverse showing more. Fields have toned a dark gray with gun-metal blue toning. Liberty's device is a frosty gun-metal blue with only two short tick-marks worth mentioning. The reverse fields are toned a mixture of gray and champagne with mostly blue and teal undertones. Eagle detail is superb and there are no marks to mention. This series still represents good value for today's numismatists as superb gem examples seem to be overlooked at the present time.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.

Realized $7,475
