Warren, Earl. Typed Letter Signed as Governor of California, Sacramento, California, March 5, 1951, one page, quarto. To an Englishman, James Peter Arnold, who had written to express concern for the health of Warren's daughter. Warren writes, in part, "…Your observations regarding the governments of England and the United States are most interesting and we appreciate your kind remarks about the American people…." Fine. Warren was governor of California 1943-1953; in 1953, President Eisenhower appointed him as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, where he served until his retirement in 1969.
