Lot 816

1859-S Liberty Seated Dollar. NGC graded MS-62 Prooflike. One of the unsung rarities of the Seated Liberty Silver Dollar series, the 1859-S has a low mintage of only 20,000 pieces. Uncirculated examples are very rare and they usually come with satiny, frosty luster. Yet, here we have one that is reflective and brilliant enough to merit a "Prooflike" designation at NGC -- the only time this adjective has ever been applied to a Silver Dollar of this date by NGC! The surfaces are typical of a 62 -- lightly abraded and somewhat baggy, but there is no denying the luster and appealing visual presence of this coin. The color is almost pure white, with rings of golden-brown and olive-blue toning forming near the extreme outer borders. This is a very unusual and desirable format for this date, one that will likely set a record price for the grade. The NGC Census shows 7 in MS-62, 1 in MS-63, and 1 in MS-65.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.

Realized $11,213
