Nero, 54-68 AD. Gold Aureus (8.54 g), Rome, struck 64-65 AD. Choice and rare. Laureate head of Nero right. Reverse: Standing partly left, with heads in profile, Nero and Empress stand in the guise of Helios and Tyche respectively, each holding patera; Nero with radiate crown and long scepter, Empress veiled and holding double cornucopiae; AVGVSTVS AVGVSTA. RIC 44 var. (Nero portrait unbearded); BMCRE 52. Nicely centered, the bold relief portrait sharp and fully struck up, but reverse a bit softly struck. Lustrous and handsome, with interesting reverse type. Nearly Extremely Fine.
