Claudius, AD 41-54. Gold Aureus (7.73g) struck at Rome, AD 46/7. Laureate head right of Claudius. Reverse: Inscription within wreath. RIC 40 [as R2]. BMC 42. Choice Very Fine.

Victories were frequently featured as reverse commemorations and in the case of Claudius, he had many. His conquests in Britain and Germany were not so differently proclaimed two millenia later, with our U.S. coinage depicting the Apollo touch-down on the moon on our infrequently used dollar coins.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.

Realized $3,680
